After Ian Gillan Vocals and Roger Glover Bass both departed from Deep Purple after the release of the band’s last album, 'Who Do We Think We Are’ in 1973. They replaced the vocalist with then-unknown David Coverdale, who would later form his hard rock band Whitesnake in 1978. The bassist was replaced by Glenn Hughes of the funk rock band Trapeze. The rest of the lineup remained unchanged, with Ritchie Blackmore on electric guitar, Ian Paice on drums and Jon Lord on organ. The band would later record Stormbringer couple of months later with the same lineup until changing it in 1975 for Come Taste the Band before going on hiatus. Replacing Ritchie Blackmore with Tommy Bolin of Zephyr 1969 – 1971 and The James Gang 1973 – 1974.
